@ahistorygirlie: Hidden inside the White Tower is this original Norman garderobe (toilet), built over 900 years ago. It served the Great Chamber and was one of six garderobes in the White Tower. Waste fell through shafts into ground pits below, and the toilets were all positioned on the north side of the building, away from its grand entrance. By the early 14th century, the Tower was so heavily used that a stone wall had to be built to hide the waste dropping from the garderobes. Aren’t we lucky to have wonderful toilet facilities today? 🚽 #TowerOfLondon #History #MedievalHistory #Norman #WilliamTheConqueror
