@alephbeta1: The Hebrew word emuna is usually translated as "faith"—but that translation might be hiding what it actually means. #bible #torah #faith #deuteronomy #hebrew
Now read Isaiah 53. Our Messiah came, left, and will return.

This makes me think of faith so much deeper, and how it is a requirement for salvation - Emuna in Christ isn’t just belief, but a whole-heartedly belief that garners a good work.

The word iman in Arabic is translated to faith or belief. But it has a nuance where it means “security “

Excellent presentation—very easy to understand.
I fully agree with what was expressed by Rabbi Saul of Tarsus, better known as the Apostle Paul.
In his letter to the Hebrews (11:1), he defined the meaning of "faith":
"Faith is the certainty that what is hoped for will come to pass, the convincing proof of realities that are unseen."
It is like holding a genuine property deed that convinces and motivates us in all our actions.
Please excuse the grammar.

I'm learning that some of our Swahili words may actually have roots in Hebrew 😅. In Swahili, the word for faith is "imani". I'm pleasantly surprised to learn that in Hebrew it's "emuna". There's another video (I forget his channel) where the guy explains that in Hebrew, the word for prophet is "navii" and in Swahili the word for prophet is "nabii" 😅. Very interesting. Thanks for these videos 🙏.

this is what James meant when he said
"If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,
and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith "apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

Thank you kindly.
I'd like to add that your definition is exactly what Hebrews 11 says....'the substance of things hoped for;evidence of things not yet seen"
From a legal perspective this is therefore to say that Faith is Evidenced and Substantiated per the Hebrews 11 definition.
And again you're right, God never calls for Blind faith. Throughout we see that He first gives a taste of His power and from which faith is to be exhibited for the unknown. Abraham, Moses, Gideon, and countless others first experienced a foretaste of God's power which gave them the assurance and confidence to live in obedience to The Word.
Thus faith in God as Yeshua Hamashiach impresses that we must have is the living expression (tangible and substance) of hope in the impossible being possible for the Almighty.
Consequently, starting with Abraham, Hebrews begins to list the many who lived their lives moving forward in spite of whichever obstacles before them.

Yes. Faith is much more than belief. It is action through belief.

I think the Septuagint translation to pistis carries a similar connotation. Trust or even an enduring faithfulness.

That's one of the reasons the NWT is one of best translations true to the original languages. It often will use "put faith in" or "exercise faith" which gives a more accurate meaning of faith in action.

The word does not refer solely to believing in the existence of someone or something. Its meaning varies with the context and encompass trust, obedience, and steadfastness.
