okay so full story is that the launch cable on xcellerator snapped in 2009 and caused severe lacerations to a 12 year old boy's leg. The park was found to have had a 6 month maintenance schedule for this ride which is far less frequent than the manufacturer's stated maintenance schedule of about once per month. The state of California actually pointed out that the recommended maintenance inspection interval provided to the park by Intamin (this roller coaster's manufacturer) was confusing and unclear, leading to this accident as being both the fault of the park and of Intamin, the manufacturer. Thankfully everyone was able to recover and roller coasters have become more safe as parks and manufacturers have learned from this accident

For people who dont know in 2009 the cable snapped on the roller coaster and sliced the kids leg and the park owners didn't do anything

Okay so, for those who don’t know, what happened was a cable had frayed internally (which does happen) and it snapped. The cable DID NOT hit the boy, and he did not lose his leg. He was hit by some debris but recovered easily
