@dispatch.trucks: 🚛 Think truck dispatching is just finding loads? Think again. This is what a real freight dispatcher does from start to finish. If you’ve ever wondered what dispatchers actually get paid for, save this post because this is the workflow behind every successful load. 👇 Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ Find a load Search load boards like DAT or 123Loadboard to find the best-paying freight for your carrier. 2️⃣ Book the load Call the freight broker, negotiate the rate, and secure the shipment. 3️⃣ Complete carrier setup (if needed) If it’s your first time working with that broker, send the carrier packet: ✔️ W-9 ✔️ Certificate of Insurance (COI) ✔️ MC Authority ✔️ Notice of Assignment (if factoring) Once approved, you’re ready to haul. 4️⃣ Sign the Rate Confirmation The broker sends a Rate Confirmation (RateCon). Review it carefully, have it signed, and send it back. 5️⃣ Dispatch the driver Send the driver everything they need: • Pickup location • Delivery location • Appointment times • Rate Confirmation • Special instructions Now the load is officially dispatched. 6️⃣ Track the shipment Stay in communication with the driver from pickup to delivery and solve problems before they become expensive. 7️⃣ Handle detention or lumper fees If the driver waits too long or pays a lumper, document everything and request reimbursement from the broker. 8️⃣ Collect the paperwork After delivery, receive the: ✔️ Signed Bill of Lading (BOL) ✔️ Proof of Delivery (POD) No paperwork = No payment. 9️⃣ Invoice the broker Submit: • Invoice • Rate Confirmation • BOL/POD This is how the carrier gets paid. 🔟 Get paid If the carrier uses factoring, send the paperwork to the factoring company. If not, request Quick Pay or wait for standard payment terms. That’s it. One completed load from beginning to end. The more organized you become… The more carriers trust you.
