Not only were many soldiers taken to European frontlines, the wars were also fought on the African continent. Look up Mbala, Zambia, where the last battle of WWI took place and Germans surrendered to the British.

My great-granduncle was kidnapped and sent to France to fight in a war he never chose he never returned and we never learned what became of him like many colonial soldiers of that era he was treated as expendable and sent to the front lines and they were never properly recorded or identified in the archives and because of that when they died they were left on the battlefield
