@talknerdytomecalifornia: Have you ever seen a glacial moraine? It's possible you have, but just never knew what you were looking it. Many of California's landscapes have been shaped by glaciers and moraines are comon at higher elevations and in the Eastern Sierra. A moraine is basically a landform built by a glacier. As glaciers move, they act like slow bulldozers, pushing rocks, sand, and debris along with the ice. When the glacier melts back, it leaves those piles behind. You can often identify moraines because they look like long, rocky ridges or mounds that don’t quite match the surrounding landscape. There are a few different kinds:  - Lateral moraines form along the sides of a glacier, where debris gets trapped between ice and valley walls.  -Terminal moraines mark the furthest reach of the glacier- like a giant rocky speed bump showing how far the ice once advanced.
