As a kinder teacher, I’d say go ahead and go through with the 4 full days. She will adjust in a couple of weeks. To be completely honest the difference I see with kids who did prek full time vs kids who didn’t (my school does 5 full days of prek, not mandatory) was absolutely insane with how they adjust to kindergarten and where they’re at developmentally vs the ones who didn’t not have prek. I’m such an advocate for giving them all the knowledge and it’s good for them to socialize as well. They learn SO MUCH just from play and interacting with kids their age.

I feel like the odd one here but I'm pro keeping them home/doing less days 🥹

My daughters were like, “See ya’ mom!” Cayman is one bright, little girl. I think she would thrive in 4-days a week.

She’s 4 right? So next year she’d be doing full kindergarten 5 days a week right? I’d do the 4 full days.

You will never regret keeping her home with you! Take her to free library classes when you can, be intentional scheduling play dates with friends, and work with her on writing her name and knowing her letters and numbers. Sign her up for an extracurricular activity. I’m a homeschool mom and my kid who went to preschool didn’t learn as much as my homeschooled preschoolers. We just have to be intentional with scheduling social stuff.

look into churches! my 3.5 year old started preschool last year at a local church early learning program. he goes 2 days a week and it is very affordable for us. this fall he will go two days all day instead of just mornings. he absolutely loves his school! also, for the germs. we did elderberry and bee keepers naturals and we only got sick a handful of times.

4 year is way to young for full days. the public schools have gone to full days because the childcare crisis in America, there's no daycare. my 5 year old struggled with full days last year.

just FYI, there's gonna be a ton of germs. Just keep that in mind with a newborn.

It’s actually probably good to let her do 4 days because kindergarten will be 5! Might make for an easier adjustment next year

transitional Kindergarten teacher here and I say send her. This past year we had three students who came as their moms were getting ready to have their siblings or just had their siblings and they did amazing. They loved school, it gave them a break, mom a break and then their time at home together was extra special.

We did 3 half days at a preschool. We did pay for it but it was well worth it.

My son started preschool (private school) last year at 4, he went 5 days a week but it was half a day. This year he will be full time at the same school for kindergarten, we also have our 3rd baby coming in September!!!!

My son just finished GSRP! The 4 full days were great for him, but in reality they had several half days and days off! The afternoon was very chill too and in general the days are not too much for them! Great socialization and prep for kindergarten! You won’t regret it!!!

We did private school and 2 half days and it was a million x worth it! Same boat, our oldest was about to be 4 when she started and we had 2 under 2, new baby at home and I just wasn’t okay letting her be away that long (esp with new baby!!)

As a prek teacher send her for the 4days! It will be so good for her. She will adjust quickly, couple days to a week. To be honest, the difference between kids who attended full-time Pre-K and those who didn’t is huge. At my school, full-time Pre-K isn’t mandatory, but the kids who went adjust to kindergarten so much better and are much further ahead developmentally. I’m a big advocate for giving kids every opportunity to learn before kindergarten.

Even though they offer 4 days, does she have to go everyday? Maybe you could start with 2-3 for a couple weeks to help her adjust? My son started with 3 days a week and then 2 at his daycare and he was sooooo ready to go full time at school

GSRP teacher here..send her! She will acclimate quickly and TRIVE! Michigan has this amazing program and it’s FREE for ALL! Certified teachers too! Now, consider yourself lucky, your district is still offering 4 days. We are at 5! But the kids walk into Kindergarten well prepared and already have a sense of belonging to their school.
