Today should’ve been Hayden Panettiere’s 37th birthday Instead, people are mourning a woman who never got the chance to grow old. I know some people say, “She was just a celebrity. Why are people taking this so seriously?” But she wasn’t just a celebrity. She was a mother. A daughter. A sister. A friend. Someone deeply loved by people who knew her beyond the headlines. And she was a human being who deserved protection. Hayden entered the entertainment industry at just 4 years old. She grew up in a world where adults were supposed to protect her, yet as a child she was exploited, pressured & expected to carry things she should have never had to carry. She recently spoke openly about addiction, depression, postpartum depression and the struggles of growing up in Hollywood. She even spoke about being introduced to substances at 15 by someone on her team. So when we reduce her story to addiction or mental health, we miss the person behind the struggle. A child was struggling. A woman was struggling. And the people around her were supposed to notice. They were supposed to protect her. They were supposed to help. As a survivor myself, I’m taking this personally. This has been triggering for me in ways I don’t even know how to fully explain. Because I know what it feels like to not be protected. To be hurt by trusted adults. I know what it feels like to be an adult still carrying the weight of things no child should have ever had to carry. And I know I’m not the only survivor who’s felt this. This is why survivor protection matters. We cannot keep waiting until someone is completely broken before deciding their pain is serious enough to deserve help. Survivors need to be believed. Protected. Supported. She deserved that. She deserved to be seen as more than her career, her struggles or the headlines written about her. She deserved the chance to simply be human. Today, I hope we remember the little girl, the mother, the sister, the friend, the survivor & the woman behind the celebrity. She was so much more than a famous name. She was a person. And she mattered. We as survivors matter🖤 #haydenpanettiere #MentalHealth #survivor #healing #fyp
