@bookswithamanda212: Sacrifice, compromise, and consideration are necessary for any healthy relationship. Therefore, any content suggesting you do the contrary in your relationship (whether it be a friendship, with your family, or romantic partner), is not encouraging a healthy minded relationship, they are rather teaching you how to become selfish people who only consider your own feelings, wants, and desires. This is much different from what I encourage of prioritizing your needs over those that take advantage of you. It’s much different than encouraging people not to compromise their self worth and value. These selfish traits you’re learning will bleed into your other relationships. If you are at this point where you’re consuming this sort of content, walk away. Leave that man! See how easy that is for me to say since I’m not exploiting your pain and hurt? The idea of “decentering” your spouse in your marriage, the only other person in your marriage, is ridiculous. Walk away, rediscover yourself, and maybe you’ll end up in a healthier relationship, maybe you’ll end up never marrying again, either way, that’s the best thing you can do for yourself. #marriage #relationships #marriageadvice #sacrifice #progressive

“Decentering your husband” means making yourself the center of your own life, not removing him from it. Simple.

This is not good advice. Decentering men isn’t that deep and is actually a very good thing to not base your whole life around catering to your spouse

why would i decenter my husband when he is literally my life? my kids father? the person i enjoy talking to? the person i enjoy spending my free time with? the person i want to see succeed? the person that makes me happy? isn’t that the whole point of legally & ethically binding yourself to someone? to grow with them? don’t get me wrong we’re each our own individual person but… i love this man

Yeah I disagree. The language is about making yourself the most important person in your life. I’ve seen "decenter your mom content." Does that mean people consuming that should go no contact with their mother lol ? it means reframing your relationships in a way that puts you at the center

When I decentered him, everything in life got better, his included. Best thing I could have done. It was that or divorce.

nah a lot of us were raised to put everyone around us, especially husbands, ahead of ourselves. after I got married my mother literally told me that I shouldn't eat before him (Thank God I don't listen to my mother's advice lol). I take the decentering husbands advice as trying to get people to more equal and healthy relationships, not actually hating your husband.

I thought decentering content was about putting yourself first. Not saying we should neglect the loved ones in our lives, but not to put everyone else first before yourself.

Love some of your other videos but this ain’t it. Decentering is about realizing YOU haven’t had good boundaries with others, and thereby learning to recognize and verbalize and act on your own boundaries — for space, time, affection, etc. It’s for people who are used to people pleasing or considering others’ feelings above theirs. You don’t need to leave a partner you love to do this. You can actively work on yourself and create these boundaries while in a relationship. Also not getting certain needs/wants met doesn’t automatically mean the man didn’t care about you — peiole who aren’t used to centering themselves have a hard time asking for what they need, so the imbalance in relationships happen organically. Centering oneself is literally about learning to ask for your needs/wants and giving the other person a chance to give them. Like the other comments said, your take is too drastic and not what this movement of centering oneself is about.

I think that in an ideal world, yes everyone would leave a bad marriage, but there's so many valid reasons why people don't. If the best outcome now is just having a roommate relationship in your marriage then so be it

I’m consuming that content to remind myself never to enter a marriage. I know not all of them are bad but I’m not taking any chances. I have a good thing going!

I walked into my marriage centering my husband, completely forgetting my identity. I lost myself in my family. I dont think the intention is to be selfish, I think its to take some of that identity back, to focus on yourself, give yourself time, maybe even have hobbies. why would divorce be first? why wouldn't we try to fix the issue first?

Idk, I haven't watched alot of videos about specifically decentering your husband. But, I feel like alot of people are far too co-dependant/emeshed with their partners. I think having a strong sense of self, independence, and identity outside of your relationship is a good thing.

Decentering doesn't mean any of that. It just means your life doesn't revolve around them, you're a team but you have your own lives seperate to that.

idk i feel like that content is good for people to recognize things that may be wrong in their relationships or ways theyve put themselves aside. the answer isn’t always leave, especially if b your partner is willing to work on those changes as well
