@hannabethh__: I am so curious to hear all of your thoughts!! Please drop them down in the comments, I have literally never heard of a teacher coming in during summer break to have an IEP meeting!!!!! #teachersoftiktok #teacheronsummerbreak #teachers #boundaries
I’m a SpEd teacher from August 18-June 5. During the rest of the summer I’m a feral looking raccoon wearing pajamas laying by the pool eating chips for dinner and playing Fortnite until 2am. Summers are mine sis. 😅

I think two things can be true at the same time. It is true that parents can request an IEP meeting at anytime, including the summer. It’s also true that teachers aren’t paid in the summer so there’s a great chance your child’s teacher/case manager will not be there.

Absolutely not. And you could never convince me that some of these parents aren’t scheduling these out of spite because teachers are off. Nope. Not happening.

We have them for students who were testing for eligibility at the end of the year. I actually sit in as the general education teacher and we get paid extra to come in during our summer! 😊 I like it because I make extra money for coming in once a week.

I have multiple meetings this summer as a special educator. Basically the IEP process doesn’t end. I have students who started the process prior to school getting out, so we have to continue the timeline into summer. I also had a parent get an outside assessment and they requested things to be updated for the upcoming school year

And not only did it keep getting worse, but the part that made me laugh is when she said teachers are customer service agents, then where’s my tip jar you can request any meeting you would like I will not be there😂

In NJ we have IEP meetings in summer, BUT you sign up to be in them. For example, like summer school, at my school they ask who’s interested in coming in for IEP meetings. We also get paid our “hourly rate” for coming in.

I don't even know who my students are during the summer. We do not get our "official" list until the day of open house. My youngest is nonverbal severely autistic and I do not even know who his teacher or 1:1 will be until the day of his open house.

I totally agree with you and she is confused. She is a member of the team, but the focus of the team should be the student.

I was mind blown when she started saying teachers are overwhelmed but then proceeded to double down on encouraging parents to disrupt our time off to have us attend IEPs, while demonizing the teacher who commented saying “F no”.

We had summer IEP meetings but we’re paid hourly! They also were on a volunteer basis from the sped teachers side. I always said yes to the kids that I knew were going to be on my caseload. Honestly, I wrote my IEPs after hours and never got paid anyways. So doing it during the summer, with no other work, took something off of my plate come August!
