a professional dancer at 15 years old would be bailey sok (choreographing for kpop teaching world wide dancing in music videos etc) not some one who competes alot and was in a few commercials

Exactly. Like professional doesn’t mean you take classes and do competitions. It means you do some type of job around dance and you should have a resume.

Fr I feel like professional dancer is used so wrong. But my friend, she's 16, nearly 17 and she's a professional ballerina. She does school online, and she's been in the Nutcracker. So, yes it's hard to be a professional ballerina that young, but it's not impossible.

To be a professional dancer you must be booked under a long-term or recurring contract. ‘Working dancer’ would include someone doing freelance or gig work. If you are not being paid to perform you are not a professional dancer. If you are paying to train you are still a student no matter the advancement of your level

Professional in dance just means you got paid to dance, no matter how good or young you are. Master however is different. Which is why dance competitions specify that professional dancer are/ aren’t allowed to compete, it just means at some point they were paid money to dance.

I wish people would actually understand what it means to be PROFESSIONAL. Being a professional means it's your JOB. This also can go hand-in-hand with a ballet dancer vs a ballerina. A ballerina is a professional dancer, a ballet dancer is someone who takes and trains in ballet.

I think people forgot that pre professional is a thing. even then, not every dancer is in a pre professional program. this reminds me of when Tyler catastrophe said he was a "semi professional singer"

Second comment cos why not. when going to professional auditions I can almost guarantee you will NOT be asked to do,
Turns in second,
Tilt/tilt jumps,
Firebirds
Anything more than a double pirouette,
A back catch or any form of trick (unless it's show specific).
Also unless you are willing to do a skill everyday/8 times a week for 6+ months perhaps don't list it on your résumé. Yes you may be able to pointe, but can you sustain it?

master class = some guy who booked one gig in 2016 playing a warm up song and then quickly teaching a 3min combo that his friends already know and then filming

HOT TAKE: I agree with who she said it towards, JoJo leading a “master class” literally makes no sense what is jojo supposed to teach to advanced LA students, it was definitely an opportunity for jojo to make more money. I do disagree how she said it though cause she was so harsh.

so I'm a professional dancer myself (Professional Bellydancer) I made a video about this a few months ago; In my opinion, if you are accepting payment in exchange for a performance, you by technicality are a professional. Now, the level at which you are at when accepting those bookings, we can discuss, but by definition they technically are entering the professional arena.
I do agree with you about the Master Class thing though. Because I have been in Master Classes and it's barely intermediate level based.....how is that a Master Class? Like your teaching movement you'd see in a 101 class (like breaking down movement not just reviewing it) ......make that make sense...

I’ve been teaching for a decade and did competitive dance and cheer from age 2-21. Do I have a wealth of knowledge and can I hold my own generally through an advanced masterclass? Yes. Do I consider myself a professional dancer? Absolutely not. I can teach you to do 16 à la secondes. Don’t ask me to demo 😭
