@vocaldecoding: I surveyed hundreds of singers about their biggest vocal challenge. What I found were the two biggest were things were high notes and confidence. I’m going to address confidence. You’ve got two singers. One says, I’ll do it when I feel more confident. The other says, I’m going to do it now. A year later, their lives look completely different. The one who did it now found out it wasn’t that dangerous. They made it through. They’ve got evidence that it worked. They were able to do it. It didn’t kill them. Now they can use that evidence and the information they got as feedback, and they can build their skill set because it will highlight what part of their skill set needs to improve. Now they improve it. The next time, they’re a little better. They feel a little bit more confident. Also, start where the stakes are low. If you want to do a one man show, one woman’s show, or you want to perform somewhere big, start really small. Start in an open mic. Post a video. Put something on Spotify. Start where the stakes aren’t very high, but they’re a little out of your comfort zone, and get used to that. Then go up a notch, and then up a notch, and then up a notch. It’s like building muscle at the gym. You don’t go in and lift some ridiculous amount of weight. You lift what you can do with good form and slowly, week by week, you add a little more, a little more, and a little more weight. And that’s how you build your confidence.
