I think alot of people misunderstand davids character. David is a regular guy with no dreams or passion. He was living for the dreams from other people, helping them to achieve their dream. His Mom wanted him to go to the school and get a high position in arasaka tower but when his mom died he instantly dropped out from that school wandering around the city with no plans. But then he meets lucy. Her dream is to go to the moon and david wanted to help her achieving that dream, thats why david was installing the implatant. To save lucy so she can go to the moon but as the story goes on we find out that lucy‘s dream is no longer going to the moon but living peacefully with david together. David didnt know that and even if he did it was already too late for him
