Have you ever seen or learned about wild carrots? 🥕 Note the fuzzy stems that are completely green. If you have heard of them, maybe you've been warned to stay away... It's actually decent advice unless you've been foraging for years and can 100% confidently identify Wild carrots aka Queen Anne's Lace from the deadly Water Hemlock. You don't want to mess up the two plants, it's literally life and death. Water Hemlock is one of the most deadly plants to ingest in the United States. It contains a toxin called Cicutoxin which attacks the central nervous system essentially shutting it down. Unfortunately there's no antidote for Cicutoxin. That's why it's so important to be 100% positive when identifying plants you intend to ingest. Water Hemlock has purple splotches on its stem (but not always when young!) It has no fuzz or hair on its stems. It's leaves do look very similar to wild carrots. All that being said we DO NOT suggest you try foraging wild carrots if you're a beginner forager. We've been foraging for 8 years learning the different edible plants and their not edible look alikes. It took us years of learning and identifying BEFORE we started eating plants we find. Never eat anything you aren't 100% positive in your identification. In this case I'm 100% positive this is Wild Carrot (Daucus Carota) Beginner foragers should stick to the easily identifiable plants, with no toxic look alikes to start with while learning about the plants with toxic look alikes. Once you start learning it's actually very easy! Happy Foraging, good luck, and stay safe!! 🌱💚 #foraging #forager #PlantLover #apothecary #forestwitch
