I would also add hypermobile women are more likely to have cervical insufficiency. Insist your doctor measure your cervix during every ultrasound, and if you feel heaviness request a measurement right away. Early detection could save your baby.

I just had my 3rd baby and I tolerate pregnancy well. I don’t have a lot of joint issues during pregnancy but postpartum is brutal on my joints. I think my body has a hard time going back to “normal”. On the plus side, labor and delivery is fast!

I’m pregnant for the 3rd time with heds. Definitely attest to the movement is medicine (familiar movement) loved swimming this time! I did have some high risk factors and 3rd trimester is miserable but tolerable and hydration and most of my energy goes to management of my body and keeping my other kids alive. I could not imagine working and having a healthy pregnancy except for the first time maybe.

I had no idea I had hEDS when I had my two kids. I found out when my youngest was 3 years old. The worst thing I experienced was pelvic girdle pain, it was excruciating. My OB did not really take it seriously and it sucked.

I’m 44 and just now realizing I’m likely hyper mobile in some areas. I had HORRID pelvic pain while pregnant, then after having my daughter my hips would dislocate if I moved in certain ways. It took YEARS before it got to where it was only my right hip and not nearly as easily. Now when I sit on the floor with my legs straight out that foot flops to the side. I’ve shredded my knees so they don’t move like they used to, but I used to could do things like sit in the “W” position, pull my feet up backwards and tuck my feet into my armpits (🤣). I can reach my left hand behind my back and grab my scapula, my right doesn’t go as far but I’ve mess that shoulder up so 🤷🏼‍♀️, I can do all the weird hand/finger things. I get the dizzy spells and am clumsy. Just don’t know where to start on trying to “help” my joints or find a doctor.

For anyone who is a pregnant hEDS girlie who are wondering — my pelvic floor PT wouldn’t let me start running until 16 weeks PP, and I wasn’t allowed to run until I had 0 pain with squats, single leg squats, a few other things and jumping.

I now suspect I am hyper mobile but when I was pregnant I didn’t know. The pain I felt for 8 months is the reason I will never have a second child. It was absolutely awful.

I'm so worried about pain management, it's barely controlled as is and I'm going to have to go off so many meds if I become pregnant. My rheum basically said if it gets bad enough I'll just have to take NSAIDS despite the negative effects 🫤

Just had my second baby, and all third trimester, I went to my local community center and did lunges and crab walks and other similar exercises in the lazy river. I couldn't do exercises out of the water without screwing up my joints, so this worked really well for me.

As someone with stage 2 prolapse, that hasn't made any progress in the year that I've been in physical therapy. I really wish I would have found your page prior to birth

I was diagnosed after my last pregnancy. That was the most painful pregnancy, couldn’t stand for more than a couple mins because my pelvic floor hurt so bad

I have hEDS and I'm 2 years post partum. Yeah my body is WRECKED. Symptoms of pots skyrocketed, joints constantly coming out of place now, ibs out of control, new mcas, pain is out of control, ibs, allergies, can walk more than a mile...could go on. Everything is sooo much worse and its still not better 2 years after. Been in physical therapy for 6 months, tons of Dr's vists, a bunch of aids, and a fourtune later. 😩

I’ve had three babies so far with hEDS and I tolerated the first two pretty well but the worst problems have been rib and hip subluxation and dental issues. This last one though included blood pressure issues/POTS flare ups and pain flare ups on all of my joints.

I had multiple miscarriages last year and obviously released relaxin and since then my lower back is a disgrace ....I'm hypermobile with Sjögren’s, APS, Raynauds, fibro, Hashimoto’s hyperthyroidism, AdHD, and tongue tied. I'm experiencing a pelvic anterior tilt I did PT and it actually agitated my lower back after 40 sessions. bridges etc, corebstabilizers,. I'm on hydroxychloroquine 300 mg I've tried , Imuran no difference and I'd prefer something for inflammation and brain fog and fatigue I did my research an see low dose neltrexon is having great success for pelvic and over joint pain. have you used this in your work? they won't prescribe it they made me try Cymbalta for pain and I'm sober and don't want something that causes altered states it made me violently ill dry heaving and lock jaw. I'm a redhead and they really aren't collaborating and I just want improved quality of life and no new habits

As someone with HEDS I will never have children because I would never want to pass this down to someone else

I had a dislocated pelvic during mine and had to see a physio every week. I sat on a medicine ball from 5 months onward. I also got stuck at 9 cm. I wasn’t diagnosed as HEDS until 12 years later.
