My grandmother used to make these kataifi rolls when we were little. I still remember the smell of warm butter and dill filling the house, and how she’d drizzle honey over them “just for some sweetness,” as she used to say. This recipe reminds me so much of her — crispy, herby, and sweet, just like she made them. Ingredients For the kataifi pastry: • 450g (1 lb) kataifi dough, thawed and fluffed • 60ml extra virgin olive oil (for coating the dough) For the filling: • 500g (1 lb) feta cheese, crumbled • 1 egg • 3 fresh onions (scallions), thinly sliced • 1/3 bunch fresh dill, finely chopped • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste For topping: • 40ml melted butter (for brushing before baking) For serving: • Honey, for drizzling • Crushed walnuts Instructions Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F), using fan with top and bottom heat if available—or fan only. Line a baking tray with parchment paper or use a well-greased pan. Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled feta, egg, sliced onions, dill, olive oil, vinegar, and black pepper. Set aside. Prepare the kataifi: Place the kataifi dough in a large bowl. Drizzle with the 60ml of olive oil and gently toss with your hands to coat all the strands evenly. Be careful not to break them apart too much. Assemble the rolls: Take a small handful of kataifi and lay it out flat. Add a spoonful of the feta mixture at one end. Roll tightly, tucking in the sides as you go to form a compact log. Arrange and butter: Transfer the rolls to your baking tray. Once all are assembled, brush the tops generously with the melted butter. Bake: Bake for 1 hour, or until the kataifi is golden and crisp on all sides. For even browning, you may rotate the tray or turn the rolls gently halfway through baking. Serve: Let the rolls cool slightly. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with crushed walnuts. Serving Tip: Best enjoyed warm! These kataifi rolls are perfect as a meze, appetizer, or savory treat—salty, crunchy, herby, with a sweet finish that surprises every time. #kataifirolls #kataifirecipe #greekcuisine🇬🇷 #cooking #alexandrashome #fypシ゚viral
