as someone who used to serve, I don’t think I would expect a $150 tip, but I would expect more than $18.. and $18 tip is something you would get left for a party of like 10 or 15. Most times less ppl than that. This was probably a huge table and a lot of stress and a lot of attention was probably required for this table. therefore you should have gotten like 50 dollars in MY OPINION nobody come for me

If someone has enough money to spend 900 dollars in a restaurant, they have enough money to tip properly. If not, they shouldn't be going out. 900 dollars in food probably means more running around, more add ons, more drinks, more requests and demands. This is incredibly disrespectful

Keep in mind most restaurants have a 3-5% automatic tip share so that’s almost $30 that the server has to pay out of pocket no matter what whether you tip or not. So they are loosing money if you don’t tip and basically paying for you to eat

The thing is no one would be a server if we didn’t get tipped. And no one would ever go out to eat anymore if we got paid $35-$60 an hour. Because your cheeseburger and fries would be $40

Your 20% tip doesn't just go to the server. Server gets 10%, bartender gets 1%, busser gets 5%, food runner 2.5%, polisher .5%, hostess .5%, and barista .5%. Mind you most servers only make $2.13 an hour. If you don't tip your servers you are taking away from multiple people's livelihoods. Weirdly, this is becoming trendy. As if these corporations are going to start paying us more now that people don't find value in our jobs.

So someone correct me if I’m wrong…. A tip is based on if the service is good right? Why are we basing it off of how much the bill is? How much my food is has nothing to do with if you provided a good service and went the extra mile to make sure my experience is worth giving you a tip. The customer’s only obligation is to order the food and pay for it. That’s it.
