a lot of kids actually were probably struggling and trying to hide it. im an elementary school para and the literacy rates are so low rn. even when I was in high school, there were people reading at a fifth grade level. its more common than you would think

At my elementary school in the very rural south there were many kids who could not read much or at all. I felt very bad for them, they had so much anxiety over these situations and didn’t want to be singled out for struggling. So in a way you may be picking up on something real
