@aemaayy: “Builds, stature, muscle, heights” vary so much within ALL women and ALL men anyway so why’s it deep #transwomen #fypシ #womeninsports #lgbtqia #inclusivity
as a pretty liberal person this was the only point i was still iffy about but you lowkey just opened my eyes

because then the women who worked to achieve high levels in sports have to compete against males, maybe see their naked male body in locker rooms like lia thomas, and it just isn’t comfortable or fair to force women who signed up to compete in WOMENS sports to compete against males. it just isn’t what they signed up for. maybe if they signed up for coed sports it would be fair, but what about religious muslim women in contact sports who can’t touch males due to their religion or women who just don’t feel comfortable touching or wrestling with males in their contact sport? should they just self exclude and not play sports because now ALL sports must be coed and mixed-sex, even within the WOMENS category? is it insane to ask that female athletes have a female only sports category? i think it’s a reasonable request

I understand what you are saying but sports arnt about eliminating every single physical advantage, if they were we’d be separated by weight, height, lung capacity, wingspan etc… the reason we don’t have these separations are because of natural variations the purpose of gender categories is to eliminate the largest and most consistent advantage not to erase difference(there’s a difference) A shorter athlete competing against a taller athlete isn’t comparable to the broader physiological differences we see with men and women

An important thing to add to this conversation: Trans women on estrogen have reported that after being on hormones for a while they get "weaker". Unable to get themselves up to the same muscle mass/ strength that they used to. I don't know the transman perspective on this but yeah. Taking estrogen puts you on relatively the same playing field as a cis woman.

and then they bring up biological advantages as if Michael phelps isn’t naturally built for swimming, should they kick him out of the olympics too?

Also, by their logic, trans men aren't allowed to compete in any sport

Sports is divided in many cases on the basis of height, weight and age. Gaslighting people won’t help your cause

I never had an opinion on this topic because I know nothing about sports or how trans people would affect them. My lack of knowledge and experience made me think “leave this opinion to those who understand it and are affected by it”. But your take made a lot of sense and for the first time I think I’m taking a side.

Just to explain to the people who don’t know how to do their own research, To compete in the female division as defined by current International Olympic Committee (IOC) regulations, a transgender woman athlete must agree to gender-affirming hormone therapy to lower, and then maintain, testosterone levels to below 10 nmol/L for one year (IOC Consensus Meeting on Sex Reassignment and Hyperandrogenism November 2015). Estradiol therapy is the common hormonal regime used to reduce testosterone levels in transwomen athletes. Which means there is no biological advantage.

Love to see the perspectives open from others, i think people should be able to participate in whatever they love because it has nothing to do with me, only themselves 🙂↕️🙂↕️

So news flash for everyone, sports are unfair. They are unfair before you get into the changing room, before you set foot on the court/pitch. They are unfair before you even come out your mother's womb. The rules for each sport do not completely negate that. It is practically impossible to do so.

do you actually think that being above 6'0 gives you even fractionally as big of an advantage as being amab? i agree that in certain sports being amab may not be that much of an issue but that is not generalizable
