Lucas is 18 months old and hasn’t outgrown his rooting reflex - a reflex that is supposed to go away by 6 months. This reflex is still very much present, causing him to drool and struggle with his speech development. His mom kept being told that it was just a phase, but she trusted her instincts and brought Lucas to be evaluated. When we gently stroked the corner of his mouth and saw him turn toward the touch, it confirmed that the reflex was still there. This was affecting his ability to speak clearly. Lucas was also a mouth breather and was constantly drooling.
