I still can’t believe it took me this long to find these dispersed campsites in the Allegheny National Forest, especially because they’re just minutes from places like Cook Forest State Park and right near some of the prettiest river adventures in Pennsylvania. Floating down the river right from camp?! Yesss please!! 😍 I found these sites using @onX Offroad and it made planning this trip so much easier - especially for finding remote wild camping spots and exploring those more tucked-away places! One of my favorite features is the Dispersed Camping Layer, where the yellow highlighted routes show where dispersed camping is allowed along motorized roads and trails. You can also use layers for things like National Forest boundaries, public and private land info, cell coverage, weather, precipitation, and fire activity. And because service can be spotty in places like this, you can download maps for offline use before you go, which is HUGE when you’re exploring more remote areas. We used onX to find camp, explore unpaved forest roads, look for river access points, and uncover more hidden gems in a state I thought I already knew so well.
