You’re definitely not stupid I promise 🥺❤️I felt the EXACT same way when I took ochem in undergrad😭 My chem professor always said it’s basically like learning a whole new language, so it takes time to click!! I actually used Sketchy in med school to relearn a lot of it, and I think they have some of their vids/questions on YouTube 🫶 They break the concepts down in a super simple, understandable way, and even though the cartoons are goofy af, they genuinely stick in your head 😭❤️

I also took ochem in summer go to ALL office hours if your professor offers them & chad’s prep is a really good resource as well that I used for the MCAT I can also send you my notes if need be you got this!!

Nobody should ever take Orgo in the summer unless repeating it. It’s much harder over a short t8me period

Reach out to your professor!!! Practice practice practice is one of the best methods to maximize your achievements in the course and to prepare you for Organic II. I advise strongly not to just remember pathways, which is so easy to do, but in order to have success in the course you need to understand the chemistry of the WHY. I wish you nothing but the best. I’ve taken Orgo 1 and 2. Just get through it, please. Do not give up, you can do this. This class will challenge you and rewire your brain. Remember HOW to solve a problem— remember keywords from certain questions and categorize the different questions you will be asked on the exam. You’ve got this.

I recommend reading the chapter before lecture and doing the practice problems as well before class. Look for horses not zebras. In ochem 1 it’s about understanding core principles of stability. What makes carbocations stable, a free negative charge, how does the ph of the environment change the balance etc… Once you have a good feel for the intuition behind why reaction mechanisms would look a certain way draw them out until you can explain every step to someone. Focus hard on the mechanism and why electrons will move to certain places. Take that and then do some simple synthesis problems to get comfortable getting from point a to b with the reactions you’ve learned. It’s going to be an uphill battle but if you can learn it now you will be set for the mcat and beyond in biochemistry. It took me a while to learn but once I did it helped me get a foundation for everything beyond ochem. Good luck! Keep pushing forward and you will be rewarded.

Girl, I took ochem 1 over the summer and this was when I’d work 12hr shifts overnight and come straight to class. When I tell you, you gotta bombard your teacher with ALL the questions. If something didn’t make sense, I asked about it. When I got a homework question wrong, I asked him to explain. There was not an unclear thought in my head that did not go unspoken. I know right now all the questions you have may not be answered, but reach out! Ask what you can, supplement with videos online, and once the exam passes, go HAM on the exams. Ochem is HEAVYYYYY on practice problems, and beyond that, recognizing what will fit in the specific spots for those practice problems. Many atoms can fit in place of what is seen in a practice problem, and being unable to recognize can absolutely cook you on a test. You’ve got it! It’s okay to struggle, but make sure you speak up about it. Closed mouths will never get fed

I'm taking summer orgo rn and it's sooo hard- in summer orgo 1 we had 4 midterms, a final, and 30 quizzes in 5 weeks. Got a B+. Orgo 2 I just took my 2nd midterm last night and have taken 19 quizzes... Lord have mercyyyy
