I just didn't talk about it until, like, after high school. Like, my first clubbing experience was in LGBTQ+ bars, and I was like, "Oh, wow! These are people just like me, like, I'm not weird then!" I felt, like, at home. When I was at home at home, I didn't feel like home, because I felt like I had to hide those things about me. And then, when I met him... you didn't really come out to me. He would just casually say things like, "Oh, I gotta take my testosterone today." Or, "I'm buying a binder." And things like that. Jay: I've gotten a lot more comfortable with speaking about being transgender. I had a lot of fear around it, especially being Black and being disabled. It wasn't like a, "Hey, I'm coming out as transgender." It's just me in my suit for the first time, that my dad got me, which was such a pivotal moment. Getting to a place where I could talk about it and feel proud of being trans, even with what is against us in the community...that's been such a freeing thing for me because it's allowed me to show up so much more authentically.
