When I first started baking, I knew clogged drains were a thing, and I thought I was being careful enough. Turns out…not quite (scroll back to my recent drain videos for context 😅). Flour + water = glue, and it builds up faster than you’d think. I probably bake more than most, but honestly, you can never be too careful. Here’s what I’m doing now (still minimal effort) to keep my drains clear and happy 🥖 - I now scrape as much starter from the jar into my bowl as humanly possible, using a silicone spatula. - I then fill my starter jar and give it a good mix before tipping that water outside. - I again use the silicone spatula to scrape down the top of my mixing bowl, incorporating any mess into the dough for minimal cleanup later. - I wet my hands before stretch and folds to minimise dough sticking. - Before washing dough off my hands, I let it dry for a second and then rub them together over the bin to remove any clumps of dough. - Moving forward I’m going to be doing a monthly enzyme treatment for the kitchen sink using drain specific enzyme pallets (see my previous video for the exact ones).
