i left the church as a young adult and have been working through the religious trauma ever since, it always blows my mind when a fully functional adult decides to join Christianity.

As far as religion, i agree about feeling like doing good with the hope of being rewarded is not great. Like if you can’t be good unless there is a benefit for yourself are you actually good or not?

I feel the same was as you. My mother is a super Christian and begs me to be like her but I left the church and religion as a whole yesterday. I don’t hate religion by any means, I just don’t like it when others try to force it upon you.

When it comes to Christianity, it encourages you to ask questions and if people chastise you for it, then just like rude people, dont listen to them. . YOUR relationship with God is between you and him, and if you need to wrestle with God, then do so, as he encourages you to do it. . Also, no one gets into heaven by "being a good person." According to the Bible, no one is "good" as God defines it. What gets you into heaven is putting your faith (ultimate trust) into Jesus, accepting his sacrifice for you. By doing so, you are made a new creation. Though, we should still try and be "good" people, for the sake of being good to your fellow man. . I encourage you to look up and just listen to "Cliff Knechtle." he is a pastor, sure, but he also goes to collage campuses and talks with curious atheists and questioning Christians. He explains things in such a way that has helped me understand some concepts better. . Regardless, i see you are a gentle and kind person, and I personally hope you return to Christ as i know he is still waiting for you with open arms. If you need to ask questions, then go and ask your questions, and dont let anyone make you feel bad for it. God still loves you!
