Yeah, but how beautiful is it that we were able to carry our children for 9 months and feel their kicks. That they are the only people who knows what our heartbeat sounds like from the inside. Our bodies changed because we grew little toes to carry them through life, fingerprints, and a heart that will beat for decades. The mental load is alot, but our brains literally change to become more attuned to our children. Science calls it maternal brain plasticity it rewires us to be more responsive, more protective, and more connected. The “mental load” isn’t just a list of things to remember. It’s carrying the map of another human’s heart. Knowing what scares them, what makes them laugh until they hiccup, what helps them fall asleep, what food they’ll actually eat today, and noticing when something isn’t right before anyone else does. Motherhood asks so much of us, but it also gives us the extraordinary privilege of being someone’s first home, first heartbeat, first comfort, and forever safe place. And that’s a kind of beauty no sacrifice could ever erase.
