As an Italian who has been to Porto Venere many times, I’d recommend visiting a lovely little bookstore called LIBeRI TUTTi. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk from the main shopping streets. The shop has a great selection of contemporary Italian fiction and books from independent publishers. Even if you don’t speak Italian fluently, there’s a small English section with some classic titles. It’s probably not on the same scale as Daunt Books in London but it’s definitely worth a visit ☺️

Oh my, I live in Liguria! Benvenuto! I've been to Porto Venere a few times and seen il Golfo dei Poeti too of course (But I, unlike Byron, did not swim there, I'm not that good of a swimmer lol) It's nice to see someone admiring the beauty of my home for the first time! To stand where so many poets have stood with that much beauty in front of you well it leaves with a feeling that never goes away no matter how many times you've seen it, it makes you want to write poetry yourself :)

I don’t know how familiar you are with Italian literature or if you want to visit other cities here but: if you like Joyce he was a close friend of Italo Svevo (one of the most important writers here in the 1900s, tied to the theory of psychoanalysis) and they met in Trieste (If I recall correctly) so that might be an interesting city to visit (other than Florence which is renowned for her history). If you like more eccentric personalities you could check out D’Annunzio and his home near Garda (Vittoriale degli Italiani), although he is quite a problematic figure so be aware of that (fascism).
