All applicants need to know that their school doesn’t care about them. The school cares about a 100% match rate. They will try to pressure you into just accepting whatever, so that they can call you matched and be done with it. You gotta do what’s best for you

Don’t match. 1 hr to cry. <24 hrs to REDO your entire app you spent MONTHS doing that may not be the specialty you want. Then anywhere from 10+, 20+ to 40 ish interviews in 2 d. Some literally 5 min phone interviews to decide your future.

I helped 2 friends from med school through soap …. Soap requires an army. We had a war room working on programs, letters, redoing the personal statement…. Everything. You cannot do it alone. It’s insane that your app took months to be reduced to 12 ish hours

there’s no reason for SOAP to be like this! it probably takes what like 30 seconds for the algorithm to run after all rank lists are submitted then they sit on the results for months. why can’t there be something more less chaotic between then and match day??

The entire process, even starting from MCAT and then all the way through to match— genuinely feels like a hazing ritual. I understand the reasons why match is competitive, but what I don’t get is WHY it is made to be so cut throat and brutal to soap and decide your future under that kind of timing/stress 🥲

My best friend in medical school was in the Army and she matched into ortho in the Army. Did her intern year and ended up HATING it. Switched to family medicine and now she is an attending in the Army and truly living her best life. I hope this bump in the road turns into the gateway of your best life

I’m so sorry honey. I don’t believe in “allls well that ends well”. You’re allowed to be traumatized. You’re allowed to grieve a career you won’t have a chance to pursue. You don’t have to pretend to love family med. You just have to accept it, and move forward. 🥰
