@nourishingapothecary: One of the biggest myths about ADHD is that children can’t pay attention. The reality is, many children with ADHD can focus incredibly well on activities they find exciting, stimulating or rewarding. This is known as hyperfocus. The challenge isn’t always paying attention. It’s regulating attention. That means they may be able to spend hours building LEGO, playing video games or talking about a favourite hobby, but really struggle to stay engaged with homework, chores or tasks that don’t capture their interest. This isn’t laziness or a lack of effort. It’s one way ADHD can affect how the brain prioritises and responds to different tasks. If this sounds familiar, it doesn’t automatically mean your child has ADHD, but it may be worth exploring if it’s affecting their learning or everyday life. If you’re concerned your child may have ADHD, Lainie works with children and families Australia-wide via Zoom to provide personalised naturopathic support.
