I've found that as soon as I feel the tingle, if I hold an ice cube on the area for at least 10 minutes, the cold sore doesn't even appear.

Ask your doctor about Valacyclovir! I get them so bad and when I was pregnant they became out of control and I was prescribed this and haven't gotten one since!
