@rafidahaccelerationist: The Babylonians (c. 1894–539 BCE) were one of the most influential civilizations of ancient Mesopotamia, centered around the city of Babylon in what is now central Iraq. At their height under King Hammurabi (r. c. 1792–1750 BCE) and later the Neo-Babylonian Empire (626–539 BCE), their territory stretched across most of modern-day Iraq, as well as parts of Syria, Kuwait, southeastern Turkey, and southwestern Iran, eventually extending into the Levant, including modern-day Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon. The Babylonians were renowned for their advances in law, mathematics, astronomy, architecture, literature, and engineering. They built monumental temples and city walls, developed one of history’s earliest comprehensive legal systems—the Code of Hammurabi—and made major contributions to science that influenced civilizations for centuries. Their empire came to an end in 539 BCE, when Babylon was peacefully conquered by the Achaemenid Persian Empire under Cyrus the Great, but their legacy continued to shape the ancient world. #Babylon #Mesopotamia #AncientHistory #HistoryTok #Babylonians
