@50shades.of.luna: Not the kind of traffic you'd expect... In October 2012, Space Shuttle Endeavour was transported through the streets of Los Angeles after retiring from NASA. The 19 km (12 mile) journey took nearly 3 days as the city carefully cleared the way for its final road trip. 👇ENDEAVOUR FINAL FLIGHT @50 Shades of Luna🌙 𓂃⋆ 👇What is Space Shuttle? @50 Shades of Luna🌙 𓂃⋆ 👇Space Shuttle Iconic Photos @50 Shades of Luna🌙 𓂃⋆ #spaceshuttle #nasa #History #space #losangeles
You not really from LA if you weren’t here for this 🤞

Over 400 trees were cut down in order to transport the Space Shuttle. The mature pine and other street trees removed along the 12-mile route ranged broadly in size, with local residents and reports noting heights between 30 to 80 feet tall and ages spanning 40 to over 60 years old.
The California Science Center said it would replant about twice as many trees as are cut down. And some city planners said they welcomed the chance to replace diseased trees and to repair sidewalks that have been damaged by tree roots.
The Crenshaw/LAX Line (now officially named the Metro K Line) broke ground and started construction in January 2014 and officialy opened for buisness October 7th 2022. I fully understand that it would have made no sense to replant trees with the metro construction on the horizon. Metro was to help fulfill the promise that the Science Center made.
The promise that was made to plant approximately 1000 trees has never been fullfilled.

Only in LA can someone get to work late and legitimately blame it on “a space shuttle was on the road”

We watched it fly by in 5th grade and my classmate Richard cried when he saw it. My teacher posted his reaction on Facebook and it grabbed the attention of the California science center. Because of this, we had our own exhibit in the science center for awhile! We also got early access to the exhibit and were able to publish a book where we all got the chance to say what we wanted to be when we grew up🥹
