At first, he appears to be an ordinary Morty controlled by an "evil" Rick using an eyepatch. Later, it's revealed that the opposite is true: the eyepatch was a disguise, and Evil Morty was controlling the Rick. Spoilers below. Evil Morty is different from most Mortys because he is highly intelligent, manipulative, and completely disillusioned with the relationship between Ricks and Mortys. He believes that Ricks exploit Mortys across countless universes and wants to escape their endless cycle of chaos. His biggest accomplishments include: Secretly taking control of the Citadel's political system. Winning the election to become President of the Citadel by pretending to be a reformer. Using the Citadel to destroy the Central Finite Curve, the barrier that separates universes where Rick is the smartest being from the rest of the multiverse. Escaping beyond the Central Finite Curve through a distinctive yellow portal, reaching realities where Rick isn't necessarily the smartest person. Despite being called "Evil Morty," he's not evil in the traditional sense. His actions are ruthless—he kills many Ricks and Mortys to achieve his goals—but his motivation is freedom rather than conquest. By later seasons, he mostly wants to be left alone and only helps Rick and Morty when it serves his own interests. Many fans consider him one of the show's most compelling characters because he challenges Rick intellectually and philosophically.
