@securebordersuk: A new independent appeals body will quickly and fairly ensure asylum appeals are heard in months, not years. Cases that are in the public interest to be resolved will be prioritised, leading to faster returns. A dedicated late claims process will also mean that last-minute claims cannot be used to delay removals from the country. The new legislation will force all claims to be lodged at the earliest opportunity and remove the current tactical advantage to bringing claims late. Currently, the average time taken to clear asylum appeal cases stands at 67 weeks, which has left a backlog of more than 87,000 appeals waiting to be heard. The new appeals body will be staffed by professionally trained and independently appointed adjudicators. This will broaden the eligibility criteria for people to apply to become adjudicators, leading to more decisions being made. #UKImmigration #Immigration #Border #UKNews
