AsslamuAlikum I know an interesting about this this Ghazal. Please allow me to share that with you. This poem is written by a young poet (unknown at the time) named Shakeel Badayouni. Baigham Akhtar was a well known Gazal, Thumri and Kaafee singer in those days. He (Shakeel B) some how found out that Baigham A. was travelling to take part in a big concert at Lucknow and that train on route was to stop at the railway station near by. Shakeel B. with this poen in hand went to the railway station. After a bit of search he found Baigham A's. compartment and handed this Ghazal with request to sing that at Lakhnow concert. The train moved on and an hour or so later B.A. thought of that note and ask her manager to bring her harmonium. On the way she tried to make the tunes of this Ghazal. Finally she sung that at the concert and the rest is history...
