One of the hardest conversations we need to have about education is this: Not every problem in our schools is the school’s fault. 🌝 For years, we’ve watched parents blame teachers, administrators, school districts, budgets, testing, curriculum, and politics for why children are struggling. 😒 👀 While many schools absolutely have serious issues that need to be addressed, there is another side of the conversation that people are often afraid to have. ➡️ Many parents are no longer doing the work at home and that's contributing to a majority of the issues that we often discuss. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Children are arriving to school without basic discipline, respect for authority, accountability, study habits, reading habits, emotional regulation, or even the understanding that education matters. Teachers are being asked to not only educate students, but also parent them, counsel them, discipline them, and fill gaps that should have been addressed long before the child walked into the classroom. Schools cannot outwork a household 🤨... A teacher may have a child for 6-8 hours a day (WHICH IS A LOT BUT ONLY FOR A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME). Parents have them for life. If a child never sees a parent read, why would they value reading? If a parent never checks homework, why would homework seem important? If a parent constantly undermines teachers, why would a child respect the classroom? If there are no consequences at home, why would there be accountability at school? Education works best when schools and families work together. The most successful students usually have adults at home who are involved, engaged, and invested in their success. This isn’t about shaming parents. Parenting today comes with challenges that previous generations never faced. But accountability matters. We cannot continue pretending that every educational failure starts and ends inside a school building. 🧐 Sometimes the question isn’t “What’s wrong with the school?” Sometimes the question is “What’s happening at home?” ➖ #parentingwithpurpose #teachersupport #SchoolSystem #teachersofinstagram #educationsystem
