Yes u are spot on!!! This no birthright citizenship was just a loophole to get rid of black and brown ppl. After they deported all of the brown ppl they wld have been ready to feast on the ability to now strip black Americans of our citizenship and deport us to wherever they chose. This was just the tip of the iceberg their ultimate goal was to get rid of black ppl once and for all in this country. That’s why I was so happy the Supreme Court finally did the right thing!!

I don’t know Sis my grandparents and my great grandparents and their parents are from here too. I think it’s safe to say we were already here.

Thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective. You made some valid points, and I appreciate the thoughtful way you presented them. I would only add that birthright citizenship also matters to those of us who are Indigenous to this land. While many Black Americans trace their ancestry to enslaved Africans, not all of us have that same family history. In my own genealogical research, I have not found evidence that my ancestors were enslaved. Instead, I’ve been able to trace my lineage to my Indigenous tribal ancestry here in America. For that reason, I view birthright citizenship as an issue that protects not only the descendants of enslaved people, but also Indigenous peoples and others whose families have longstanding roots on this soil. It’s an important constitutional protection that affects multiple communities, and I think it’s important that those perspectives are included in the conversation as well.

the Three-Fifths Compromise was not a result of the Dred Scott ruling. In fact, it happened decades earlier. The two events are separated by 70 years and represent entirely different chapters of American history.
