When people look back at 1954, historians often describe it as a turning point. It saw major shifts in Civil rights, Cold War politics, Nuclear technology, Space exploration, Popular culture & Fundamental physics. What I recognize most is this- The Rockefeller family and their commitment to funding all areas related to this research. 1930s Major funding expanded for institutions such as University of Chicago, which became a leading center for theoretical and experimental physics. 1930s–1940s Rockefeller funding supported European physicists displaced by Nazi Germany, helping many continue their research in the United States and elsewhere.(RED FLAG) 1940s Universities receiving Rockefeller support became central to wartime and postwar physics research, including nuclear physics. 1950s Rockefeller philanthropy continued funding universities, laboratories, fellowships, and scientific infrastructure while Europe founded CERN independently in 1954.
