@guide.dog.dolce: Disabled students should have equal opportunity to complete course work. I was fully capable of doing the work but wasn’t given the chance to show that I could. my forensics teacher would have bell questions on the board., I'd ask him to either read them to me or send them to me in an email before class. he exempt me from them and I never had to do them again.. a quick email with three questions is not that hard. it frustrated me but it was also my last trimester of high school so I didn't fight for it..

My son has an intellectual disability and autism/adhd. He is nonverbal. At school, he is learning to use a tablet to write his answers. They send homework home and expected him to either scribe or have me scribe. I told them they would have to send the tablet home because that was how he was learning to do the assignments at school. Accomodations are so important to be followed!

Because I had FND they made me take a transitions class in highschool that literally taught single digit numbers + single digit numbers. I have no problem doing math. I tried to stop taking that class but they put me in a new one every year.

I am dislexic and in my elementary computer lap the teacher wouldn't teach me or a couple other kids who also had dyslexia and she told us to play ABC.ya for the hour. A couple years later I got in trouble for using two fingers for typing instead of having my hands resting on the home row

This is called a modification, and we're trying to lessen these for more students. I'm in school to be a TVI, so I can speak to that, at least from my school. And accommodation is giving the student the tools to do the entire assignment, whereas a modification is modifying the work they have to do, and thus the expectations. We are trying not to do this as much, at least for students whom we know can handle the workload.
