The founders may or may not have believed that they never really discussed it. The 14th amendment was ratified in the 1860s and none of the founders were around for that. But what they did do was build a governing document that could be amended. The correct way to go about changing something in that document that you don’t agree with is to go through the amendment process. So you can think it’s stupid all you want, but there is already an established guideline for how to change it.
