I lowk think that the writers cut out a lot of important in between scenes to show us the current state of each main character. The story told us, Alicent had no friends at court in s3, since she was a Hightower. Well, we as an audience at *told* Alicent is alone, but never shown. In that same light, we should have been shown how the blurred boundaries of mother hood and love has left her. Is her conscious guilty for not giving her son enough love? We don’t know. Is Alicent mad? Well, perhaps since she was sent to Harrenhall to murder her own son (alone mind you), and still went through with it.

Wdym in episode 2 we didn’t get a scene of her dealing with Aemond’s actions?? My dude, she literally opens the doors of King’s Landing to Aemond’s opponent…. That is her dealing with it.

you're absolutely correct, but also she then does try to kill him which is a step up from her allowing her sons to be killed by others - I think if they'd have linked the two together more carefully (with some emotional ramifications of Aemond's assault) it would have solved both issues

season 3 episode 1 was already so upsetting, I tried to continue with episode 2, but it was so unnecessary and upsetting I dont think I can even continue the show because it happened with no warning and explicitly shown.
