@meghannmcuniff: Jurors in next month's trial over Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder will hear about a memoir defendant Duane “Keffe D” Davis wrote about his alleged role in the crime. Judge Carli Kierny cited Davis' interview with Vlad TV about "Compton Street Legend," in which Davis claims he tossed a gun into the backseat of the Cadillac he was in and a man in the back used it to shoot Tupac. "In his interview to the Vlad TV, he promotes this book as his book. He encourages people to buy it, to get the real truth, and not from the law enforcement or industry people. He also repeatedly says it's something like the whole truth of the situation," Kierny said during a pre-trial conference on Tuesday (June 30) in Nevada's 8th Judicial District in Las Vegas. Jury selection is to begin on August 10. Davis' lawyers tried to get the memoir exlcuded as evidence, but Kierny said "I really find there is no legal argument to exclude the book." Criminal suspects must only be read their Miranda rights in a "custodial interrogation," the judge said. "It doesn't require warnings where a defendant voluntarily provides information in a non-custodial setting," Kierny said. Davis, 63, is accused of organizing the fatal shooting as part of a feud between the South Side Crips and the Mob Piru gang, which was tied to the Bloods, and as retaliation for a fight involving Davis’ nephew Orlando Anderson, Shakur and Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight, who was injured in the shooting. #law #court #crime
