I genuinely never thought something like this would ever happen to me. This morning, at Palm Springs International Airport in Palm Springs, I was forcibly removed from the aircraft. The context is that I had a flight leaving out of Palm Springs International Airport in Palm Springs at 11:37 AM. I arrived to my gate at around 10:37 AM, so I decided to go to the bar and have a few drinks before the flight. I had 3 Heineken Double Zeros and for the sake of telling a transparent story, I’ll admit that I was feeling tipsy. I paid my tab without tipping, headed to my gate, showed my boarding pass, and headed down the jet bridge towards the aircraft. I stepped onto the plane and a smiling African American female flight attendant asked me for my boarding pass so I reluctantly pulled out my phone. She looked at it and said “You’re the last window seat on the left. Seat 55C.” My heart started to race, I started to sweat, and loudly said “That can’t be right. I should be in first class.” The people sitting in first class as well as another African American flight attendant perked up and looked at me. The flight attendant in front of me said “My mistake sir. May I see your boarding pass again?” I threw my hands up in the air and said “Are you going to sit there and pretend like you don’t recognize me?” She looked over at her counterpart who shook his head and shrugged. She said “Sir. I’m sorry but I don’t know who you are. Will you please take your seat?” I snapped. “I am an influencer! I make content for a living! I don’t care what my ticket says. I’m a first class passenger.” I rushed past her and started demanding other first class passengers to get out of their seats. The next thing I knew, I had my hands behind my back and was being shoved out of the airplane by the pilot, who was also an African American. I exited the aircraft, stood on the jet bridge, and looked back at all three of them . “You three! Out of all people, YOU should know what it’s like to be marginalized and you still treat me like a freaking peasant!” I turned around and made it back to the terminal and left the airport. I won’t let this ruin my day but I just wanted to share a snippet of how difficult the lives of influencers can be.
