For women specifically- if a man has ever commented about your weight, if he has ever commented about another woman’s weight, if he has ever talked about leg hair or how periods are gross or if he’s ever said sex is a ‘need’ - that is NOT a man you marry. Because when you are hemorrhaging into a diaper and can’t stop crying after a miscarriage or you’re puking from chemo - that kind of man will not be there for you and they certainly will not make you feel like you still mean everything to them. I got lucky that my husband is 6’4, but the real gift is that after 20 years and endless life shit and changes - he’s still madly in love with me and makes me feel it every day💙

People want perfect. My husband wasn’t perfect when we met. He’s not perfect now. But a month ago I was hit by a truck jogging on the road we live on. 5 houses away. That man did a 30 min drive to the hospital from work in under 10 min. He’s working extra hours to make sure we aren’t hurting too bad without my income. He’s helped my change myself almost every day for the last month. He’s washed my hair every time iv showered since it happened. He’s talked me down from the multiple panic attacks iv had. I’m his world, and I couldn’t have picked a better man. We’ve been together for almost 14 years. And that man ALWAYS steps up for me and our daughters.

My husband sat with me while I made funeral arrangements for my pap when my mom and uncles were too upset to do so. He made sure we stopped at Starbucks to get my dying 20 yr old cat a pup cup because I wanted her to try one beforehand. He gave her all the love in her final moments and was strong for me.

My grandpa would go to the nursing home and feed my grandma breakfast, lunch and dinner when she had to go in due to having Alzheimers. She couldn’t remember him, she couldn’t speak or even walk in the end and he still showed up every single day until the very end. He passed 2 weeks after she did healthy as a horse.. they said he died of a broken heart. Also, when he was 18 he was in a bad car accident and lost all his memory up until that day… she spent the next several years reminding him of everything he had forgotten and they were married over 50 years.

Five months into dating my now fiancé , his great aunt passed away. She was like a second grandmother to him. I supported him while he grieved. A few months later, my dog of 15 years didn’t come back from the vet. He drove us there , held me through it, and paid for everything because he said that affording services for him shouldn’t be something I have to worry about. Being able to trust your partner with the things that matter, knowing you can count on them, those are the important parts.

I called him crying about my fish dying (he hates my fish) and within 15 mins he was at my place, ordered us food, watched my favorite movies with me, the fish ended up still being just barely alive and while we waited to see if he’d get better he kept telling me no I didn’t kill my fish - oh and he had plans that day with his frat brothers for Christmas … I think I picked him well
