Cable crunches are a staple ab exercise which so many people struggle to perform correctly.  @AYBL dc NEENY Here’s some cues to make them easy to understand and  perform.  Set a cable to the top and choose your attachment. I prefer to use the tricep looped rope but you can use various ones such as rope attachment or a v handle.  Hold the attachment at arms length and step back a small step before you kneel down. I found digging my toes into the floor helps me stabilise my lower body for the exercise.  Pull some tension into the cable, bring your hands near your head and hinge a little at the hip so you don’t fall forward. From here, find tension into the core and allow the cable to pull your abs into a full stretch before crunching down, curling your ribs to your hips and bringing the elbows towards the outside of your thighs.  Remember to keep the hips locked in position and neutral/with a slight posterior tilt. We don’t want hips moving back and forth, nor do we want to yank the weight with our arms because these will both take away from the abs doing any work.  Working the abs requires spinal flexion so really focus on rounding through the t-spine into the crunch and also allowing full extension at the top of the movement when your abs are stretched and resisting the cable tension.  Inhale on the way up and exhale through pursed lips on the crunch portion of the movement for full effect. Keep the movement slow and controlled without using too much, if any momentum.
