@simplyinteriorsdesign: Lighting is one of my favorite parts of the design process because it's the jewelry of a home. Every fixture has a job to do. Chandeliers create a statement. Pendants anchor an island and provide task lighting. Sconces add warmth and highlight architectural details. Vanity lights ensure you have the right light where you need it most. Even recessed lighting has to be carefully planned to evenly illuminate a space without creating harsh shadows. When I'm selecting lighting, I'm thinking about so much more than what looks pretty. The size, finish, shape, bulb temperature, brightness, mounting height, and how each fixture relates to every other light in the home all play a role. The right lighting brings a room to life. It creates ambiance, adds personality, improves functionality, and is often the finishing touch that makes a design feel complete.
