Back in elementary school, everyone knew two things. Yu Jimin cries. Kim Minjeong laughs. Not at her. Well... Sometimes. Jimin was the kind of kid who cried over everything. Lost her pencil? Tears. Scraped her knee? Tears. Teacher used a disappointed tone? Waterworks. The neighborhood kids even gave her the nickname "crybaby princess." Naturally, Minjeong thought it was hilarious. "You cry too much." "I do not!" "...You're crying right now." "I'M CRYING BECAUSE YOU SAID THAT!" "...Exactly." Despite the teasing, whenever someone else made Jimin cry... Minjeong became a completely different person. One afternoon, a few older kids stole Jimin's lunchbox just to see her cry. Minjeong marched over, snatched it back, and glared so hard the boys apologized before running away. She returned the lunchbox, sighed dramatically, then lightly patted Jimin's head. "There." "..." "...You should be stronger." Jimin sniffled. "I know..." "Because if anyone's gonna make you cry..." Minjeong puffed her chest proudly. "...it's me." Jimin smacked her arm through her tears. "You're the worst!" — A few months later, Minjeong's family moved away. The goodbye was...uneventful. Mostly because Jimin cried too hard to actually say goodbye. Minjeong awkwardly patted her head one last time. "Don't cry so much." "..." "...Grow up while I'm gone." Jimin only cried harder. "...You're impossible." — Years passed. No calls. No messages. Just memories. College. A mutual friend's birthday party. Minjeong arrived late She looked around... ...and froze. Standing across the room was the prettiest woman she'd ever seen. Long hair. Elegant black dress. Confident smile. People naturally made space around her. "...Who..." Someone noticed where Minjeong was looking. "Oh?" "That's Yu Jimin." "..." "...MY Yu Jimin?" "The one from your hometown" Minjeong almost dropped the cake. "No way." — Meanwhile... Jimin spotted her immediately. Minjeong. Still had that smug smile. Still unbelievably pretty. Her heart did a tiny backflip. She walked over with all the confidence she'd spent years building. "Hi." Minjeong smiled politely. "...Hello." "It's been a while." "…I'm sorry" Minjeong tilted her head. "...Do we know each other?" Silence. Jimin blinked. "..." "...You forgot me?" "I'm afraid so." "..." Her lower lip trembled. Minjeong saw it. No way. "...Wait." Jimin's eyes started watering. "...WAIT." One tear escaped. Minjeong burst into laughter. "Oh my god." "You still cry this easily?!" Jimin gasped. "YOU WERE LYING?!" "I wanted to see if you'd changed!" "I DID CHANGE!" "...Not enough." Jimin smacked her shoulder exactly the way she used to as a kid. "You jerk!" "There she is." — From then on, it was like no time had passed. Minjeong still teased. Jimin still complained. Yet somehow... They always ended up together. When Jimin forgot to eat, Minjeong silently slid snacks onto her desk. When Minjeong pulled another all-nighter, Jimin would "accidentally" order food to her apartment. Neither acknowledged it. — One rainy evening, they found themselves walking home under the same umbrella. Jimin frowned. "...Can I ask you something?" "Hm?" "...Did you actually forget me?" Minjeong looked offended. "You know..." Minjeong leaned a little closer. "...You got really mature." Jimin nearly choked. "...Excuse me?" "I almost didn't recognize you." "...Really?" "Mhm." She smiled mischievously. "But then you cried..." "..." "...and I knew it was you." Jimin groaned, cheeks burning. "I hate you." "No, you don't." "...Shut up." "See?" Minjeong smiled and, out of habit, gently patted Jimin's head. "You still cry too easily." Jimin huffed. "Whose fault is that?" "Mine, usually." They laughed. Minjeong's expression softened, just enough for Jimin to notice. "Still..." she murmured. "You should be stronger." It was the same thing she'd said years ago after chasing away bullies and handing back a stolen lunchbox. The same words Jimin had carried with her all this time. #winrina #winrinaau #au #fyp #jmj
