This definitely sucks but idk why some of yall act like owning a disk means full proof means you “own the game” like I have the disk for OW1 and can’t play the game anymore. If they really wanted you to not own the game they would be able to make the game not work for disk either. I feel like this was gonna happen regardless.

the problem isnt JUST form its OWNERSHIP. at minimum when you owned a disc(usually) you could play your games when and wherever you wanted. this is HORRIBLE bro, i hate the loss of discs because i want to OWN what i pay for

Ye I haven’t bought a physical game since eldenring in 2022 but this sucks major. Physical resellers like CEX a some of the best places to find deals. Space marine 2 was £22 at CEX. Ontop that collecting physical media is a lot of peoples hobby. This won’t effect me but it’s still a stupid change that makes me sad

It will impact everyone that’s the thing even if most fail to realise it in the moment. No physical games means Sony have full control over their games and consumers have no alternative but to pay the egregious prices PlayStation set. You can often get physical games cheaper in the uk brand new usually 5-£10 cheaper and you fully own the game. With the all digital future $80 games are inevitable as the standard and might climb even higher for the ps6 making gaming increasingly a premium industry. This is the route we are going down unfortunately with all the price hikes and now removal of all physical media. Gone are the days when you would get a new game and read to back cover and manual as you eagerly await putting the disc in. What a tragic state this industry is in.

I’ve tried to convince my fiancée’s little brother for years to buy physical but he says it’s just easier to buy on the microsoft store. It sucks because no matter how you look at it, people care more about convenience than ownership. But I won’t be supporting Sony no more, if i’m buying digital then i’d do it on Steam not PS. If there’s an option for physical i’ll buy for Xbox. Fuck Sony

it's something like 80-85% of ps users buy their games digitally so like Sony is just following the money here. It sucks that physical media is going away but it's not that surprising seeing all the stats and the fact that Xbox tried to do something similar like 15 years ago.
