@yourlocal_lifestyle: 😵💫 illegal stop and search, discrimination, racial profiling and harassment in Aldi, Hatfield 😵💫 A woman has come forward with a disturbing account of what she describes as retail profiling, intimidation and discriminatory treatment while shopping in Aldi, Hatfield. According to her account, she was asked to allow staff to search an empty shopping bag at the till. Despite showing that the bag was empty, she says staff continued to insist on police involvement, removed her shopping, and prevented her from completing her purchase at the self-checkout. Feeling targeted and humiliated, she left the store and says a staff member followed her to her car and recorded her registration number. She also reports that a police vehicle appeared to follow her for several minutes afterwards, leaving her feeling fearful and unsafe. Whether in shops, on the street or during police encounters, racial profiling remains a serious concern across the UK. Black and Brown people in England and Wales continue to be stopped and searched at disproportionately higher rates than white people. Government statistics have consistently shown that Black and Brown people are several times more likely to be subjected to stop-and-search powers, despite evidence that these searches do not produce proportionately higher rates of finding illegal items. Many people from minority communities describe the experience as degrading, traumatic and damaging to trust in both businesses and public institutions. No one should be treated as suspicious because of their race, appearance or background. Retail workers and security staff have a responsibility to apply policies fairly and without discrimination, and police powers must never be used as a tool of intimidation. Raising awareness matters because these experiences are not isolated incidents — they reflect a wider pattern that too many people recognise. If we want safer communities and genuine equality, racial profiling, discriminatory stop-and-search practices and harassment in retail settings must stop. #racialprofiling #uk #england #fyp #viral

Lady, I’m really sorry that you had to go through this horrible humiliation when it’s quite clear that your bag is empty. I am so sorry how stressful and demoralising and humiliating for you to have to go through this.
