That is because Dublin has US customs preclearance facility. You go through US customs in Dublin, not in the US.

It’s because you do American customs in Dublin - same thing in most Canadian Airports. So once you’re past it - you’re sort of flying domestically back to the US.

Me and my wife always go home through Dublin. Spend time there or just connection cause it’s great getting home and not have to deal with anything but getting your luggage be leaving. So much better doing customs before

honestly guys this is so much better because you avoid standard TSA procedure because you've been screened here so basically if there's a problem you find out here instead of flying to America and being turned away there
